Apple iPad Review Roundup. How Good Is It ?
Posted on Aug 18, 2010 under iPad | Comments are offThe iPad is a tablet computer designed and developed by Apple. They represent not only protective cases and screen guards, but also devices that may make your life a little easier while using your iPad. Apple's iPad Keyboard Dock elegantly solves both the issue of the virtual keyboard being imperfect, and the need to prop up the iPad when typing on it by combining a physical keyboard with a docking station. The good news is that the keyboard is great to type on. It's not really any different to Apple's other keyboards, with a positive key action and a nice clicky sound and feel which we happen to like your mileage may vary. The display responds to two other sensors: an ambient light sensor to adjust screen brightness and a 3-axis accelerometer to sense iPad orientation and switch between portrait and landscape modes. APPLE iPad comes with several applications, including Safari, Mail, Photos, Video, YouTube, iPod. ITunes, App Store, iBooks, Maps, Notes, Calendar, Contacts, and Spotlight Search. Several are improved versions of applications developed for the iPhone. Apple's limitations make its products feel like living in a safe neighborhood, saying, "Apple is offering a gated community where there's a guard at the gate. As more consumers have fears about security on the Internet, viruses and malware, they may be happy to opt for Apple's gated community. One thought that seems to appear in a lot of these reviews is that the Apple iPad is not exactly the notebook killer some fans dreamed it to be, but the things it does do, are of very high quality.
Arguably the most beautiful application launched for the Apple iPad so far, The Elements is basically the most deluxe, visually engaging representation of the Periodic Table that you can imagine. The app is so tremendously well-executed that flipping through elements and learning about them just for the heck of it. Besides a full-screen details page for each element with melting and boiling points, atomic weight, density, and the like, there's a second page that offers a Wikipedia-esque prose description of the element and its practical applications, these pages typically also have a number of interactive images that can be spun around by swiping them for a little extra pizzazz. There are also some Wolfram Alpha tie-ins for getting more detailed information that can be reached by tapping different parts of the screen.
